Bead Dreams

Bead Dreams is the annual beading competition and exhibition that is part of the Bead&Button show.

Online entry forms are generally available in December for the following year's show and the deadline for submissions is around April 1. There are 9 different categories for entries which may vary a bit in number and topic from year to year. Of the 2009 categories, those that seemed of the greatest interest for seed bead folks are Beaded Objects or Accessories; Seed Bead Jewelry; and Finished Jewelry. But read the details of each category and see if it os of interest to you.

There is an entry fee of $30 that covers up to two submissions.

Pieces accepted as finalists need to be shipped to the Bead&Button editorial offices by early May for judging. Finalists will be on display at the Bead&Button Show in June, but entrants don't need to attend in order to win. You'll want to go if you can, though, so you can take pictures of the display that includes your work! And if you are going to Bead&Button, whether you have entered or not, you will want to spend some time oohing and aahing at the gorgeous beadwork that made it to the finals.

This contest is judged by the editors of Bead&Button, BeadStyle, and Art Jewelry magazines. Some years they have brought in outside jurors to judge the show.

In recent years, this competition has had very nice prizes in the form of substantial gift certificates from various suppliers of beads and related materials. As the industry has grown, we can probably expect that delightful practice to continue.
